Sébastien Le Beux, Associate Professor at École Centrale de Lyon, visited Hong Kong in mid-December 2015.

Associate Professor Sébastien Le Beux from École Centrale de Lyon visited Hong Kong in mid-December 2015 for his collaborative work on nanotechnology research with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). In parallel with his visit, he met with students on December 17, 2015 at King George V School in Ho Man Tin, one of the ESF schools in Hong Kong.

Professor Le Beux is a passionate scientist and researcher in nanoscience. He explained nanoscience in an interesting and lively way to the aspiring students. Around 40 KGV students of French and Science streams met with the scientist, and engaged a meaningful and inspiring dialogue around the scientific research world from the perspective of a scientist. This meeting has allowed students to have a glimpse of the fascinating world of science, as well as to practice the use of French language.

This meeting, which was supported by the Culture, Education & Science Department of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, aimed at instilling an interest in scientific technology and French language into the students. Its objective was to encourage KGV students to learn French and to implement a cross-disciplinary approach for French language education and other subjects in school.
The objective of the Culture, Education & Science Department of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao is to promote the French language and culture in educational institutions in Hong Kong, as well as to foster scientific cooperation between Hong Kong and French higher institutions. Its purpose is to support the educational sector in Hong Kong in developing French language education by organizing educational and cultural activities such as workshops with French performers and meeting up with French professors.

Biography of Sébastien Le Beux

Sébastien Le Beux is Associate Professor at École Centrale de Lyon within the Lyon Institute of Nanotechnology (INL) since 2010. In 2013, he was visiting scholar for six months at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. From 2008 to 2010, he was postdoctoral researcher at École polytechnique de Montréal. In 2007, he obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology – Lille-I. His research interests include design methods for emerging (nano)technologies and embedded systems. He has authored or co-authored over 50 book chapters, journal publications and conference papers. In 2011, he received the best paper award of the International New Circuits and Systems Conference (NEWCAS) organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
