Press conference on economy and tourism collaboration of Bourgogne- Franche-Comté region (France) with Hong Kong

From 28 to 31 May, 2018, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté will be in Hong Kong to showcase the wealth and diversity of its heritage and reaffirm its commitment to the partnership with the Government of the Hong Kong SAR.

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté has been engaged at the side of the Hong Kong Government ever since 2010

A privileged institutional partnership that commenced in 2010 with the Bourgogne Region : signature on the 21 October, 2010 of a cooperation framework agreement between the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Bourgogne Regional Council, The Bourgogne Wine Board and the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry so as to promote their exchanges mainly in the areas of economy, wine, tourism and gastronomy.

From 2011 to 2016, a rich and fruitful cooperation : cross-promotion operations each year, regular institutional exchanges with the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, regular marketing operations in Hong Kong and China, the support to development of cooperation projects between players of both regions (eg : university partnerships between the Bourgogne School of Business and Hong Kong Baptist University and PolyU, artistic collaboration between the « Quatuor Manfred » quartet and Hong Kong « RTHK » quartet, etc.). A culminating point in the cooperation was given the spotlight for Bourgogne during the « Amazing Bourgogne » operation in 2013 during the « Le French May » Festival.

2016 : The Greater Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region was born ! As the French Administrative Reforms moved on, the two neighbouring regions of Bourgogne and Franche-Comté married and gave birth to a new Greater Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, paving the way for new development opportunities with Hong-Kong.

2018 : The Chairperson of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Regional Council, Mrs Marie-Guite Dufay, flanked by the Vice-Chairman in charge of international action, tourism and export, Mr. Patrick Ayache and the Chairman of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Remy Laurent, are coming to meet their Hong Kong partner to introduce Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and draw the outlines of their cooperation at this new level.

Economic Overview on the new Greater Region

In 2017, exports from Bourgogne-Franche-Comté to Hong-Kong amounted to 92 million euros and to China 493 million euros.

With 2.8 millions inhabitants, of which 1.3 million active population and a GDP of 72 billion euros, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is the first industrial region of France in terms of jobs: 1 employed person out of 5 works in the industrial sector. The areas of industry concerned are turned to the future, attractive and job-creating : health, food processing, automobile, plastics manufacturing, energies, nuclear, wind-, wood-fuel, hydrogen- energy industries, aeronautics, mechanic, metal industry and logistics, ICT, etc.

The cradle of watch-making and eyewear industry, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is also rich from an exceptional know-how in the areas of watch-making, jewelry, gemstones jewelry, leatherware, barrel-making, fashion, tableware, etc.
The Region is maintaining 5 competitivity clusters, showcasing the excellence of regional know-how, the tools of collaboration between industry, training and research in terms of food processing (Vitagora cluster) , mobility (Vehicle of the Future cluster) microtechnics (Microtechnics cluster) nuclear (Nuclear Valley) and plastics manufacturing (Plastipolis).

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is as a matter of fact an ecosystem at the service of research and innovation:

- The first region for private R&D investments in France, involving 5,600 researchers – with 3/4 of them privately and 12,160 employed in R&D

- Applicants for patents of worldwide reputation (among those the top 3 French patents creators: PSA, Safran, CEA) and large research bodies (CEA, Centre for Taste and Food Sciences, National Agronomy Research Institute, National Health and Medical Research Institute, etc.)

- 3 cities labelled « French Tech », public innovative initiative supported by the Ministry of Economy aiming at accompanying and speeding up the development of the start-up fabric in France and its visibility overseas: Food Tech labelling in Dijon, Health Tech (Medtech – Biotech) in Besançon, IoT manufacturing in Chalon-sur-Saône.

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, it is France on a smaller scale: everything you like in France, you will find it in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté!

It is THE region of gastronomy and wines, THE region with enchanting landscapes, THE region that concentrates heritage from the Middle-Age and a region to be discovered by car of course but also by bike, on foot or by boat.

You already knew Bourgogne and its worldwide brand, now we have become Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and its brand « Montagne du Jura » (Jura mountain), a protected and very easily accessed region which stretches from North to South from Sens to Mâcon and from the Loire river to the Swiss border from West to East.

You will love the World Heritage Unesco sites, and you had visited Vézelay, Fontenay, La Charité sur Loire, gone through the Climats of Bourgogne … Now you can discover the Royale Saltworks of Arc and Senans et the Saltworks of Salins les Bains, Besançon’s Fortress, Le Corbusier Chapel in Ronchamp and the palafittic sites, all World Heritage Unesco sites as well.

Vinexpo Hong-Kong 29 - 31 May : our great wines will be once again present for this unmissable business rendez-vous

As the meeting point of all key players in Asia-Pacific, it will welcome the Pavilion of our Great Region, which like every year will be showcasing the incredible diversity of our wines.

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté CCI is engaged with all the great sectors of the region and ranking first is the wine-growing sector which the CCI accompanies on all the major international markets and in particular Vinexpo Hong Kong, with the financial support of the Region.

50 domaines and wine merchants of the Great Region will present more than 600 wines in one single venue. And no other stand present on the fair is able to rival with our regional stand which for the three days of the fair will allow new experiences, meetings, discoveries and exchanges for all professionals: importers, distributors, producers, sommeliers, wine merchants and journalists from all over the world.

The Regional Pavilion will demonstrate and be the strongest image of this recognition and designation as World Heritage of our Climats , our unique wine growing soils, parcels, grapes and know-how ! Our great wines are produced and grown by men and women who travel to present them to you because of wines are embodied wines!

Thanks to a new visual communication, the professionals have chosen to deliver a strong message, that of a dynamic, attractive and modern vineyard proud of its thousand-year heritage and its World Heritage designation.

29 May : Master-Class « Discovery of the Climats of Bourgogne »

Bourgogne wines, unveil some of the mysteries of « Climats » de Bourgogne
Hosted by Yang Lu, Master Sommelier and Bourgogne Wines Ambassador accompanied by Rebecca Leung, Wine Expert, who will enlighten you about one of the core elements of the Bourgogne region: its “Climats”. Not to be mistaken with climate, this notion is often misunderstood or incorrectly perceived. This Master class will help clarify what “Climats” represent and take you on a journey with 6 different Climats from only 3 appellations and 3 producers.

29 May : Tourism Master-Class

2 pm – 3 :45 pm, organised by the Regional Tourism Committee

An already well-known destination in Hong Kong and which this year comes to meet agencies and tour operators with many new features: heritage, wines and gastronomy, discovery itineraries on foot, by bike and on the canals.... The presentation will be followed by a introductory wine-tasting session!

This Master-Class will take place in one of the rooms of Vinexpo. The agencies and tour operators invited for the seminar can register at the Hong Kong Atout France Office.
