Optimization and Deep learning: Visit of French laureate researcher of the 2017 ANR-RGC scheme [fr]
Visit of Mr. Bilel DERBEL and Arnaud LIEFOOGHE at City University of Hong Kong for the Joint Research Scheme between France (The National Agency for Research) and Hong Kong (The Research Grants Council)
In 2011, a partnership agreement has been signed between the French National Agency for Research and the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, which has provided significant funding for bilateral scientific cooperation between the two countries.
The 2016/2017 edition selected three projects with high research potential, including the project titled: “Big Multi-objective Optimization”, led by Mr. Bilel DERBEL (Associate Professor at UIniversité Lille 1 and Associate Researcher at INRIA Lille) and by Mr. Qingfu ZHANG (Professor at the Department of Science Computer, City University of Hong Kong, and University of Essex, UK). Mr. Qingfu ZHANG completed his PhD at Xidian University, Shaanxi, China. The team Derbel/Zhang was also selected for the PROCORE program supported by the department, which finance the researchers mobility for bilateral project within a period of two years.
Planned over a period of 48 months, the research focuses on the development of optimization techniques applied to large volumes of heterogeneous data (parallel computing, evolutionary algorithms, learning). The RGC is financing this project for 1.5 million HKD, the ANR is contributing with 240000€.
