Nicolas Vial, cartonnist and famous painter, in Hong Kong (11-23 May 2015) [fr]

Around the exhibition "CONVERSATION: NICOLAS VIAL HONG KONG & YOUNG ARTISTS", which stands in the Experimental Gallery at "the Hong Kong Arts Center" from May 13 to June 10, the cartoonist for Le Figaro Magazine and official painter of the French Navy, hosted several events related to climate change.


Wednesday, May 13, at the Hong Kong Arts Center, took place the opening of the exhibition of 30 works by Nicolas Vial, focusing on issues of sustainable development and climate change, themes dear to the artist.

_This exhibition relates the works of Nicolas Vial and those of young Hong Kong artists who booming. The works illustrate provocatively effects of climate change on humans and the environment.

On Monday, May 18, the students of the French International School (FIS) were invited to visit the exhibition, guided by Virginia Brucker-Morin and Nicolas Vial.

Nicolas Vial and children were able to discuss the career of the artist, his views on global warming and many other topics related to his work as an illustrator.

The students had a lot of questions for Nicolas Vial, who was able to interest them and answer them brilliantly!

Following this meeting, a drawing contest on the theme of marine pollution in Hong Kong, organized in collaboration with the artist and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, is launched in the BIA. Nicolas Vial select the winning design. Results will be announced and published on the site beginning in June 2015.

In the evening at the french bookshop "Parenthèse" , Nicolas Vial presented and autographed his books, including "A reading of the world"; book published on the occasion of the exhibition "Nicolas Vial, a World reading" which was held at the Postal Museum in Paris in 2012, and also that the book "Sales Cats", co-directed with Anne Wiazemsky.

Nicolas also co-directed the book "The planet is not for sale": dialogue between him and Michel-Edouard Leclerc, who raises issues related to ecological and economic issues.

Wednesday, May 20, was probably the busiest day of the artist! Indeed, under a downpour falling on Hong Kong, Nicolas was shipped and filmed through a Hong Kong original visit!

For the creation of a documentary "Dialogue between Nicolas and Hong Kong" directed by the HK Fixer, Nicolas Vial followed an itinerant journey through Hong Kong.

He first traveled the Park Tamar, at Admiralty, and then visited the build and repair station Tram in the city.

He then took the ferry to Lama island , where he had contemplated a wind turbine in activity then discover at the end of a track electricity generation plant, which inspired him for his ephemeral work made in live under the very eyes of the crew!

After his return to Hong Kong Island, Nicolas closed this long day with a workshop with the Friends of the Art Museum of CUHK and art students from the "Chinese University of Hong Kong" (CUHK).

Artists and Nicolas shared their works and answered specific questions on climate change and craftsmanship. Each participant has finally realized his own drawing on the subject of pollution of the sea in Hong Kong - to close this discussion.

Thanks to Virginie Morin Brucker, and directed film, other events around the work of Nicolas Vial will take place throughout the year 2015. Among other things, a tour / movie / discussion will be organized for members the French Alliance on June 8.
