Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges made Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’honneur [fr]
The Legion of Honor in the rank of Chevalier (Knight) was bestowed to Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, CEO of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, during a ceremony at the Residence of France on November 24, 2015.
Under Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges’ direction, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has become the main sponsor of the French May. In the last editions of the annual French culture festival in Hong Kong and Macau, French artists have had the opportunity to use the exceptional setting of the Happy Valley racecourse as a stage to share their music with a large audience. Cup races such as the France Galop Cup or the French May Trophy have been staged in dedication to France and, in reciprocity, races in honor of the HKJC are also held every summer in Deauville.
After sponsoring the exhibitions of Picasso in 2012 and Jean Cocteau in 2013, Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges has also supported the exhibition of artist Fabienne Vivienne, organized in 2014 as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between France and China, as well as the concert of Philippe Jarrousky which opened the festival. By offering 4,500 young Hongkongers the opportunity to attend French May events, the HKJC has greatly contributed to tighten up cultural ties between France and Hong Kong. Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges’ action and commitment in promoting French culture in Hong Kong, and more widely in Asia, is therefore recognized by the bestowal of the distinction of Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’honneur.
