Pasteur International Joint Research Units/Centers are a “Virtual Unit” which is formed when one or several units/teams from Institut Pasteur Paris join with either one or several unit(s)/team(s) from one of the institutes of the Institut Pasteur International Network
or a unit/team from international universities or institutions abroad outside the RIIP.
that wishes to pool human resources and scientific projects in order to initiate and develop a jointly defined research programme for a 5-year mandate, renewable once.
The units or teams constituting the Pasteur International Joint Research Unit retain their independence, their manager/director, and their separate locations. Their resources (equipment, tasks and research fellowships) are put in place and funded by Institut Pasteur and the partner research institutions.
Pasteur International Joint Research Units/Centers has two coordinators (heads of units/teams), one at Institut Pasteur Paris, and the other at an institute from the Institut Pasteur International Network or at the host international institution, who jointly assume scientific responsibility for the Pasteur International Joint Research Unit. Together they draw up the research programme that they present to the Selection Committee.
To facilitate scientific interaction and collaborations between Institut Pasteur Paris and an institute from the Institut Pasteur International Network or the institution hosting a Pasteur International Joint Research Unit:
* To develop and improve scientific expertise and skills;
* To encourage new international scientific partnerships and increase the establishment of joint projects and ambitious research programmes between Institut Pasteur Paris, Institut Pasteur International Network and international institutions;
* To encourage researcher mobility between Institut Pasteur and the host institution, and promote hosting of young scientists and PhD students at Pasteur International Joint Research Units;
* To contribute to the international visibility of Institut Pasteur.
The duration will be for 5 years, with a possibility of renewal once after evaluation.
Pasteur International Joint Research Units/Centers will benefit from a joint assistance from Institut Pasteur Paris, the institute from the Institut Pasteur International Network or the host international institution. The Institut Pasteur Paris commit to support maximum 40 000 euros per year to fund tasks and operating costs which may include PhD and postdoctoral positions.
Pasteur International Joint Research Units/Centers will can also benefit from other supports from Institut Pasteur such as the International Fellowships Calmette and Yersin Programme, the Inter-Pasteurien Concerted Actions (ACIP) and the Transversal Research Program (PTR).
International institutions hosting Pasteur International Joint Research Units will also participate in funding according to each project.
Other sources of funding should be requested from funders and sponsors, and by responding to European and international calls for proposals.
Researchers from Institut Pasteur Paris, researchers from the Institut Pasteur International Network and researchers abroad outside the RIIP, and researchers or staff members from a University or research organisation may apply to create a Pasteur International Joint Research Unit.
Proposals must be submitted to the Institut Pasteur International Division and simultaneously to the foreign partner institution, RIIP institute, university or International institution.
Proposals will be evaluated by a Selection Committee and a Steering Committee including representatives from the different institutions involved.

* Description of the research project and intellectual property signed by the authorised representative of the foreign partner institutions.
* Provisional budget: travel costs, tasks, operating costs and possibly salaries for postdoctoral fellows are eligible for funding.
* Letter of the host institution’s commitment to support the Joint Unit
Scientific and financial reports must be submitted each year.
