Presented by the association "Pour une sourire d’enfant", in partnership with the Lycée Français International, the Chinese International School and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, the Hong Kong French Theater Festival 2017 took place from 15 to 18 March. On Saturday, March 18th, the closing performance was held at the Lycée Français International with the presence of the jury: Mr. Andrew Yuen, President of the annual cultural festival Le French May, Ms. Candice Yu, renowned actress, Ms. Emilie Guillot, an Artistic Director and Ms. Anne Denis- Blanchardon representing Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao.
After deliberation, the following prizes were awarded:
Best adaptation : theater company The Grenier de Babouchka for their play Les Fourberies de Scapin (Scapin the Schemer) de Molière
Best drama : theater company Tite Compagnie for Le Choix des Âmes
(The Dilemma of the Souls) by Stéphane Titeca
Best comedy : theater company C’est pas du Jeu for De quoi parlez-vous?
(What are saying?) By Jean Tardieu
The most creative and original: theater company Le Grenier de Babouchka for Adieu, Monsieur Haffmann (Farewell, Mr. Haffmann) by Jean-Philippe Daguerre
The jury members were deeply moved while watching the performances presented during this festival and emphasized the high quality of the performances.
The organizers, Mr and Mrs Biessy, expressed gratitude to the jury, the theater companies and the audience for their participation in this Hong Kong French Theater Festival, which aims at raising funds for the association Pour une Sourire d’Enfant of which the establishment was to help disadvantaged children in Cambodia.
At the closing ceremony, the Young Audience Award was also awarded to theater company Le Grenier de Babouchka for Adieu, Monsieur Haffmann (Farewell, Mr. Haffmann).
Presented as part of the 2017 Francophonie Festival, supported by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong French
Theater Festival, was also aimed at sharing and exchanging with students in Hong Kong high schools: a performance took place on March 14th at La Salle College, where students were able to watch Molière’s "Les Fourberies de Scapin" by the Compagnie Le Grenier de Babouchka and appreciate the beauty of the play, the humor and the talent of the actors.
