French electronic legend Laurent Garnier and electro trailblazer Jacques will be playing at the Sónar music festival on 17 March at Hong Kong Science Park.
Covering a wide range of genres, from Hip-hop and grime to techno, house and experimental electronica, Sónar Hong Kong 2018 will feature six stages (two outdoor and four indoor), and a lineup that so far includes 6 acts making their Hong Kong debuts. In addition to the music, the festival will also showcase the latest innovations in creative technology under the Sónar+D programme.
Driven by a relentless and exceedingly eclectic appetite for new music, French techno legend Laurent Garnier has been filling discerning dancefloors around the world for more than 30 years. Recently awarded the “Chevalier de la Légion d ́Honneur” for his services to music, Garnier was one of a select group of acts chosen to play the first Sónar in Barcelona 25 years ago, and the legendary DJ/producer is reigniting his love affair with the festival by jetting in to close this year’s Sónar Hong Kong with an unmissable three-hour set.
Born in Strasbourg, Jacques came to Paris at 19 years old where he founded the collective Pain Surprises with which he has organized wild parties and created a record label. His first EP « Tout est Magnifique » was released through Pain Surprises in 2015. On this record, Jacques knits garlands of sounds from the noises of nature and everyday objects that he has collected. During his live shows, Jacques invites the public to bring everyday objects to construct exciting tracks live on stage. He makes a techno beat by looping sounds taken from the everyday objects and then creates melodic patterns together with guitar and vocals.
