For the 2015 edition of the Hong Kong Optical Fair, held between 4 and 6 November 2015, a pavilion sponsored by Business France (the national agency supporting the international development of the French economy) in collaboration with LEOO (association of ophthalmic optical industry businesses), will showcase France’s offering in this sector.
Thirteen companies have chosen to attend this major gathering of Asian optical professionals to reaffirm their presence and showcase traditional ’made in France’ know-how, which is always at the cutting edge of creativity, including GOUVERNEUR AUDIGIER, ELCE, EYE LOVE VIEW, GOLD & WOOD, JF REY, HENRY JULLIEN, LAFONT, LOOK VISION, OXIBIS, SEAPORT ODLM, SI INTERNATIONAL, TCN and VUILLET VEGA.
In 2013, the global eyewear market generated around 5.7 billion USD, which rose by 28 % between 2009 and 2013. French eyewear frame manufacturers supply over 70 international brands and designer labels. They have carved out a luxury niche market by partnering with major fashion labels and opticians. In 2013, despite strong Asian competition, France was the 4th largest exporter of eyeglass frames in the world. In fact, it exports 50 % of its production.
This business sector largely consists of SMEs; the 13 exhibitors will exhibit their latest designs, which reflect innovation and a long tradition of using high quality technological solutions especially when working with new materials. It takes around 300 different processes to make a hi-tech eyeglass frame; the life span is unparalleled. This creativity is closely linked to the permanent quest for flawless quality, which is made possible thanks to the industry’s design clusters.
This year, vintage and oversize glasses and sunglasses are in style. The trend is for rounded designs and lines, so cat eye glasses for women and aviator glasses for men. Titanium is highly prized by many manufacturers. The children’s eyewear sector is also booming. In this market segment color is just as important as the shape.
Whatever the trends in terms of design and materials (precious woods, silk, solid gold, stone, leather, titanium, cellulose acetate and carbon fiber), the quest for comfort and products that are perfectly suited to the wearer is the main priority for French eyewear manufacturers. The children’s eyewear sector is very good example of this. Cutting edge technology and handmade techniques work perfectly to pair eyewear with jewelry and fashion accessories. In this fair, which is strategically positioned to attract the main buyers from Asia, the French offer truly meets the expectations of overseas importers/distributors looking for high quality luxury products.
The brands brought together by BUSINESS FRANCE will be exhibiting from 4 to 5 November in the GRAND HALL (3e level) of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre..
