From 18-24 July 2018, come to the French Pavilion at Hong Kong Book Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, for a series of public seminars, conferences and workshops at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre!


In collaboration with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau is inviting distinguished French writer Chantal Thomas for the Hong Kong Book Fair 2018 for a public seminar.

Chantal Thomas Public Seminar : "The Power of Women in 18th Century"

Chantal Thomas is a novelist, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, historian and member of the Prix Femina Jury: after writing her thesis under the guidance of Roland Barthes, she has taught in several American universities and is currently the Director of Research at the French National Centre for Scientific Research.

More about Chantal Thomas

In 2002, Thomas published "Les adieux à la reine". The novel gave a fictional account of the final days of Marie Antoinette in power through the perspective of one of her servants. It won the famous French literature award Prix Femina in 2002, and was later adapted into the 2012 film "Farewell, My Queen". Her fictional work, translated successfully in many countries, also includes "The Exchange of Princesses" which is recently brought to the screen by Marc Dugain (2017), a film of which she co-wrote the screenplay with the director. Thomas received the Grand Prize of the Société des Gens de Lettres in 2014 for all of her work, the Roger Caillois Prize for French Literature and the Prince Pierre of Monaco Prize.

A collection of her work will be sold at the Book Fair by the French bookstore Parenthèses:

"Architecture in France" Book Release by Prof. Louis Lor

Prof. Louis Lor will be introducing in his new book the French experiences on the evolution of architectural ideas through his book. Influences to the contemporary architectural landscape worldwide from the French architectural transformation are amusingly presented to readers.

More about Prof. Louis Lor

Graduated from University of British Columbia School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Prof. Louis Lor is a Hong Kong Institute of Architects registered architect and an adjunct professor at the Department of Building and Real Estate of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has previously served as a member of the Urban Renewal Authority Wan Chai District Advisory Committees and Old Wan Chai Revitalisation Initiatives Special Committee, and now a member of the Antiquities and Monuments Office monument assessment panel.

A series of video broadcasting on French literature and savoir-faire supported by Tv5monde Asie Pacifique will also be shown at the booth.
