French International School Gala Dinner 2015 [fr]
The French International School (FIS) held its 4th Annual Gala Dinner at the Aberdeen Marina Club on February 7, 2015. This year’s Gala Dinner was the biggest ever event with over 370 French and international guests including parents, school members and friends. During the evening, the school raised a new record of nearly HKD 2.5M to be used towards the FIS “Development Fund” which aims at financing the school expansion projects.
As Lilas Bernheim, Deputy Consul General of France in Hong Kong, stated in her keynote address: “The theme of this year’s Gala Dinner - Raising Free Inspired Spirits – represents the spirit in which we want to raise our children: we do not only want academic excellence for them but also responsibility awareness. We want them to be tomorrow’s global citizens.” As the French population in the city has doubled over the last 10 years to reach around 17,000 today, Ms. Bernheim stressed that it was vital for the school to expand in order to meet the needs of the growing community.
Indeed, FIS is currently working on projects to extend its campus at the secondary school in Blue Pool Road and is expecting the result of a bid to build a new school in the New Territories. Mr. Arnaud de Surville, President of FIS Executive Committee, expressed: “These projects will provide enhanced facilities and additional space to better serve our students, whose number is expected to grow from 2,600 this year to 3,700 by 2020.” He further explained: “We hope to make this event our most successful fundraising event to date to help financing these projects.”
In his welcome message, Mr. Christian Soulard, Headmaster of FIS added: “It is a wonderful opportunity to bring together the whole school community and tonight is a true reflection of the sense of community that is at the heart of the FIS. We thank the school community, our generous sponsors as well as dedicated volunteers, who have worked so hard to make this Gala a fabulous event. Their support will help us create our future as well as future FIS generations.”
The glamorous evening was supported by over 175 French and international corporate partners including luxury groups, banks, art galleries and lifestyle companies. Throughout the night, guests had opportunities to bid on an attractive selection of about 150 gifts in a silent auction powered by TapEvent Ipad bidding system and 8 prestigious lots in a live auction conducted by Mr. Francois Curiel, Chairman of Christie’s Asia Pacific. For the first time ever, over 70 auction items were made available for an online bidding two weeks before the evening in order to enable the larger FIS community to participate in this meaningful and delightful celebration.
Inside the ballroom, guests were treated to a sumptuous dinner with champagne and fine wines. Later on, the excited crowd enjoyed a series of musical performances by talented students followed by creative videos about the school. The evening ended on a high note with a teeming dance floor. Once again, FIS Gala Dinner was a memorable evening celebrated for a good cause.
