France in the spotlight for the 38th Hong Kong International Film Festival [fr]
France was in the spotlight during the festival with 35 French films and coproductions selected and the exceptional presence of 5 French directors and actors: Agnès b., Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Jalil Lespert et Christopher Lambert.

In the framework of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and China, the Consulate General of France and the HKIFF celebrated Sino-French cultural exchanges with the exquisite presence of the actresses Isabelle Huppert and Catherine Deneuve during two dinners at the Peninsual Hotel.

The actresses have received a scroll from HKIFF Chairman, Dr. Wilfred Wong, to honor their journeys in Hong Kong.
Isabelle Huppert has presented Abuse of Weakness by Catherine Breillat with Kool Shen. The festival also pays a homage to her work while programming three of her leading roles in films directed by Michael Haneke (The Piano Teacher), Claude Goretta (The Lacemaker) and Claude Chabrol (Story of Women).
During the 8th ceremony of the Asian Film Awards in Macao on March 27, Isabelle Huppert received from the Academy a award; inducting her First Honorary Member of the AFA Academy. She has also presented the Best Film category won by Wong Kar-Wai for The Grandmaster.
Catherine Deneuve has meet the Hong Kong audience with the screening of her last film On My Way by Emmanuelle Bercot.

Catherine Deneuve was also part of the Philippines Day with the presence of Briccio Santos, Chairman of the Film Development Council of the Philippines and Roger Garcia, HKIFF director.
During a ceremony, the actress went on stage to present the HKIFF donation in favor of the Typhoon Yolanda’s victims to Ms. Rosanna Villamoor-Voogel, Consul General of the Philippines. Catherine Deneuve was supported by the two Filipinos actors Piolo Pascual and Ms. Eugene Domingo.

Agnès B. presented as worldwide premiere her first feature as director : My name is Hmmm… with Sylvie Testud and Jacques Bonnaffé..
Finally, the festival hosted, on April 1st, Christopher Lambert as jury member of the Young Cinema Competition, an open competition set up to encourage worldwide young filmmakers who has competed for the Firebird Prize and Jury Prize. The Highlander and Greystoke’s actor was joined by the acclaimed film scholar David Bordwell from the US, renowned Korean director Bong Joon-ho and Hong Kong’s talented actress Karena Lam.
In parallel of the festival was held from March 24 to 27, the 18th edition of the de Hong Kong Film Market, the FILMART. 26 French companies - a record ! - of international film sales was represented (Gaumont, Europacorp, MK2, SND Groupe M6, Studiocanal, Wild Bunch,..). The FILMART, organized by the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council confirms year after year its influence in Asia by increasingly attracting European and North American companies.
