Distinguished Lectures by Professor Pascale Cossart at the « City University of Hong Kong » (16/09/2015) [fr]
The lecture was a part of the « France-Hong Kong Distinguished Lectures » series carried out by high-profile professors and is hosted by « City University of Hong Kong » (City U under the auspices of the Consulate general of France in Hong Kong and Macau,l’Académie des Sciences de l’Institut de France, le Collège de France and le chapitre de la Légion d’Honneur de Hong Kong.
Professor Pascale Cossart, exceptional class Professor at the Institut Pasteur and perpetual secretary of the French Academy of Sciences gave a lecture in Hong Kong on the September 16, 2015.
Mr. Eric Berti, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, opened the conference with an introductory speech presenting Prof. Pascale Cossart and her major achievements in the field of research against infectious diseases.
In her presentation entitled "The Bacterium Listeria Monocytogenes: a Unique Model in Infection Biology", Prof. Cossart began with a brief chronological recall on the history and technological developments related to microbiology.
The discussion then focused on the Lysteria model. Prof. Pascale Cossart made several discoveries about the molecular mechanisms developed by Listeria Monocytogenes to infect the human body.
The professor highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to the study of infectious diseases, notably for the design of new vaccines, including the need for the coming decades is regularly reminded by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Prof. Pascale Cossart also highlighted the past and expected technological advances that allow us to advance more rapidly in the field of biological research including that of CRISPRs.
This lecture launched a series of France-Hong Kong Distinguished Lectures all given at CityU by high profile speakers. the partners of all these events include the Consulate general of France in Hong Kong and Macau and l’Académie des Sciences de l’Institut de France. .
