Dept. of Culture, Education & Science (SCAC) [fr]
Directed by Mr Benoît Étienne, the Consul of Culture, Education and Science, the cultural activities of the Consulate General are organised and coordinated by the different services of the Department of Culture, Education and Science (SCAC) and its associated institutions.
The SCAC is responsible for representing and promoting diverse aspects of French culture in Hong Kong and Macau, as well as encouraging projects with bilateral and regional cooperation. It aims at communicating and promoting French culture among public and private cultural institutions in Hong Kong and Macau (museums, galleries, fairs, festivals, theaters, offices of cultural affairs, programme coordinators, distributors, publishers, etc.) and assisting them in the set-up and promotion of their projects through fundraising.
Endeavoured to enhance the attractiveness of French culture in Hong Kong and Macau, the SCAC works closely with the two Alliances Francaises in Hong Kong and Macau respectively, the French International School of Hong Kong (FIS), the Centre for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC) as well as Campus France (Hong Kong Office). The artistic relations between France, Hong Kong and Macau are thriving nowadays. The SCAC and its associated institutions have never stopped contributing to the expansion and further development of their areas of expertise.
Particularly, the SCAC had organised the art festival Le French May for over twenty four years and is now actively supporting the festival. Dedicated to the promotion and creation of French visual arts, performing arts and cinema, the festival reaches a large public and has captured a few hundreds performers and millions of spectators in Hong Kong and Macau since its inception in 1993.
