Conference on ‘’Innovation and Technology to combat climate change’’ at PolyU (22/4/2016) [fr]
The France – HK PolyU Innovation & Tech Development Lecture Series is initiated by Innovation and Technology Development Office (ITDO), aiming to promote technology innovation and mutual collaboration in various areas.
The series will be officially launched by a signing of the Paris Agreement on the 22nd of April 2016, the same date as in New York, USA.
Jointly organized by ITDO and the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD), the experts from France and PolyU will share their latest innovation and technology development in Hong Kong on water, waste and energy management in the event.

The speakers will be Prof. Albert Chan, Associate Director of PolyU Research Institute of Sustainable Urban Development; Mr Vincent Deleu, Project Manager of VW-VES (HK) Limited; Mr Thomas Schinko, PDG at Vasconi Architectures; Dr. Henry Lee, Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering ,PolyU.

Vincent Deleu, Project Manager of VW-VES (HK) Limited, is an engineer with a specialization in thermal engineering, he also possess a postgraduate degree in management. Vincent has been working in the environment industry since graduation, joined Veolia in 1995 and has been working since then in the field of waste-to-energy facilities.

Thiomas Schinko is the CEO of Vasconi Architectes. Prior to joining the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr. Lee served as a full-time lecturer in the Dept. of Environmental Engineering at the Inha University, South Korea from 2010 to 2012. He obtained his PhD in the Dept. of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at Iowa State University, USA in 2010. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the National Ilan University, Taiwan and the National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan in 2001 and 2003, respectively. His research emphasizes biochemical processes for mining resources from waste(water) using the computational thermodynamics and meta-omic approaches, especially in relation to fermentation, anaerobic digestion, and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox)-based processes.

At The UN 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) in Paris 2015, Parties to the UNFCCC reached a historic agreement (“Paris Agreement”) to combat climate change and to accelerate and intensify the actions and investments needed for a sustainable low carbon future. This agreement will take effect before the “Kyoto Protocol” expires. On 22nd April 2016 in New York, a high-level signing ceremony, convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, will take place as a first step in implementing Paris Agreement.
