Catherine Kwai, Knight of l’Ordre National du Mérite
During a ceremony held on May 20th at the residence of France, Ms. Catherine Kwai was made Knight of the National Order of the Merit. The Consul general Mr. Arnaud Barthélémy congratulated Ms. Kwai for her prominent contribution to the advancement of the arts, for her commitment to bringing the best of French culture to Hong Kong, and for fostering the exchange and dialogue between France and Hong Kong.
Before she started her art business, Ms Kwai served international banks and insurance companies for many years. With an enduring passion for art and experience in collecting in earlier years, in 1992, she established the Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery, which has focused on European oil paintings and sculptures.
Catherine Kwai also works for the masterly French lithography technique, inherited through many generations, to be applied for production and publication of prints created by internationally renounced contemporary Chinese painters.
The Kwai Fung Hin Art Group has introduced numerous modern European art pieces to Hong Kong and Mainland China, broadened the horizon of the local art scene and promoted cultural interflow between China and foreign countries.
At the same time, Ms Kwai also tirelessly supports art activities. She has been the curator of a number of influential art exhibitions, including the "40 Years Retrospective Exhibition" of French master Bernard Cathelin at the Shanghai Art Museum.
