The topical notions of ‘smart city’ and ‘sustainable city’ are often used as synonyms. However, reality has shown that smart and green orientations are not always converging. The explosion of urban big data, which turns out to be highly energy-consuming, is questioning the sustainability of smartness.

Co-hosted by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, and the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) and Innovation and Technology Development Office (ITDO) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the first series titled ‘Sustainable City Leture Series: Can We Make Our Planet Great Again’ will consist university-industry mix of speakers to share their views, experiences and good practices towards the sustainability of the city.

Two topics will be addressed during this lecture series:
> Urban ecological water management, accompanied with greening measures and innovative and inclusive urban design
> Smart City: air pollution and quality control
