Business France: 10 French Manufacturers of High-End Spectacles to Attend 2018 Hong Kong Optical Fair [fr] [中文]

Inextricably linked to France’s world-renowned fashion industry, 10 French eyewear companies will be exhibiting their products at the Hong Kong Optical Fair, Asian optical sector’s leading trade fair, on November 7-9, 2018. The pavilion run by Business France – the national agency supporting the international development of the French economy – will be showcasing France’s high-end spectacle offerings. Built on traditional know-how, all the exhibiting articles remain at the cutting edge of creativity and innovation.

The global spectacle frame market is worth US$6.1 billion and continues to grow rapidly. Turnover has increased by 14% over the last 5 years and the sector is particularly vibrant in Hong Kong, the world’s second-largest import market (12% of global demand).

France is the world’s 6th biggest exporter of spectacle frames and Hong Kong’s 8th largest supplier. The French optical industry features 170 companies and 1,300 brands, employing 10,500 people and generating a turnover of €3.14 billion.

In France, the sector is comprised mainly of SMEs and micro-enterprises, which have the capacity to quickly cater for special orders and requests for tailor-made products. The Jura region, a traditional center for the profession since the 18th century, has developed industrial skills focussing on the manufacture of spectacles, and been exporting across the world from a very early stage. Today, around 60% of the spectacles produced are exported and 2,000 frame designs are created each year. The segment of children’s spectacle is also growing steadily.

French spectacle makers are positioned in high-end and designer market niches, supplying to more than 70 international luxury brands and labels. They are the custodians of the ancestral know-how that has gradually been combined with technological innovation.

The 10 French firms exhibiting at the Hong Kong Optical Fair will present their latest creations, which inherit a long tradition of high-performance technology incorporating various new materials. Their innovations depend closely on the continuous research by their in-house design teams. Up to 300 separate actions go into the manufacture of a high-tech frame of exceptional durability. Meticulous quality control processes ensure that brands are forever associated with high-end products of exceptional finish. France’s manufacturers are able to closely meet the requirements of foreign importers and distributors seeking luxury products.

The firms led by BUSINESS FRANCE will be exhibiting on November 7-9, 2018 in the GRAND HALL and in Foyer 3B (level 3) of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
