Boualem Sansal’s visit in Hong Kong (March 20 - 23) [fr] [中文]

As part of the Francophonie celebrations in Hong Kong and Macao, the French-speaking Algerian author Boualem Sansal visited Hong Kong from March 20 to 23, 2017.

On Monday, March 20th, on the occasion of the International Day of La Francophonie (OIF), the general public and readers had the opportunity to meet Mr. Sansal at a conference at the Alliance Française de Hong Kong. This conference, moderated by a renowned local writer and speaker, Mr. Chip Tsao, Boualem Sansal presented his book "2084: The End of the World". The two had interesting exchanges on various topics such as religion, politics, history and literature.

On March 21, another public session was held at the French bookstore Parenthèses, where local francophone readers met Mr Sansal. Mr Sansal presented his work and his vision of the world. The public enjoyed the literary atmosphere and appreciated the richness of the expression and ideas of the author.

On March 22, a conference on the theme of "radical Islamism" took place at the Lycée Français International in the presence of the author, in front of the students of Terminale.

On March 22, the workshop entitled "Parole d’auteurs" with students of the Alliance Française took place at the Consulate General of France. The students of the literature and film courses debated directly with the author on many themes. This exclusive conference allowed students to reflect on the author’s texts, but also to immerse themselves in the French language and immerse themselves in the heart of French-language literary heritage.

Finally, on March 23, the Hong Kong Baptist University had the pleasure to welcome Mr. Sansal to the campus to chair a conference entitled "Is the West Losing the War against Radical Islam?". In the presence of Professor Jean-Pierre Cabestan, Director of the Department of International Studies and the author this conference was moderated by Dr. Emilie Tran, Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and International Studies, and Dr. Tong Yui, Assistant Professor in the Creative Writing Department. More than a hundred passionate and committed students attended the conference and had exchanges.
