Boualem Sansal, author of seven novels and a dozen essays, has established himself as a crucial voice in Europe, defending against weapons with literature and acting against violence with his writing. He condemns the flaws of his own country and the danger of religious radicalism. He did so though his latest novel, 2084, which has received the Académie Française’s Great Prize. Its translated version in Chinese has just been published by Sea-Sky.
He now lives in Algeria and tours around the world to stand up for the values he upholds.
Generous and bold in his writing, Boualem Sansal never hesitates to participate in collective works, arguing in favour of a greater sharing of cultures and languages. For a world literature (Collective, Gallimard, 2007) and Manifesto for the hospitality of languages (Collective, Gallimard, 2012), are two such examples.
