On Sunday 25 November 2018, for its fifth edition, "Sous les Déchets, la Plage" will gather volunteers on Hong Kong shores, to inspire positive changes towards environmental protection and help the underprivileged.
This initiative « Thanksgiving, not waste giving », supported by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, aims to demonstrate that everyone can act for a change, a perfect example of « Think global, act local ».
Participants will collect and sort waste, in order to isolate recyclable materials, especially plastic bottles (PET). Bottles collected will be sent to “V Cycle“, a Hong Kong social enterprise, as part of their “10 Tonne Challenge“. Eco-friendly tote bags made of recycled fibers will be produced and proceeds from the sales will be donated to elderly waste pickers, to improve their living conditions and income.
The event will take place on 25 November 2018 across 6 areas in Hong Kong: Sai Kung, Lamma Island, Cheung Chau, Lantau, Shek O / Stanley and Cape d’Aguilar.
This event is free and open to all, registration on the website.
