Artistic Cooperation [fr]
Your contacts at the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau are Zoé SIMARD (performing arts), Louis BONNEAU (audiovisual) and Katherine CHAN (press and communication).
The Department of Culture, Education and Science (SCAC) promotes and assists in organizing French artistic tours in Asia, and to a lesser extent, local companies in France. It is also in regular contact with the organisers of major art festivals in Hong Kong and Macau, which often present French productions in the disciplines of dance, theatre and music (Hong Kong Arts Festival, Macau Arts Festival, Hong Kong International Film Festival, etc.). Besides, the SCAC also has frequent liaisons with the major museums, galleries and fairs in Hong Kong and Macau (Art Basel Hong Kong, Fine Art Asia, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art etc.)
The SCAC partners with its counterparts in other French embassies and consulates of the same region to facilitate concert tours and exhibitions in Southeast and Northeast Asia.
Since 1993 in Hong Kong and 2000 in Macau, the SCAC, in collaboration with the Alliances Françaises, has organised the annual art festival Le French May. Today, Le French May is recognised as one of the most important festivals in Hong Kong and Macau. In the months of April to June, it presents a programme of around 30 events which cover a variety of disciplines (modern to contemporary art, fashion, design, music, performing arts, street arts, visual arts, cinema, gastronomy, etc.). The festival would not be possible without the cooperation of major local cultural institutions, as well as the support of corporate and individual sponsorships.
